Joseph Thompson retired from being postmaster of Whitfield at the end of 1929 and attained his 91st birthday on Thursday 10th July 1930. At the time of his retirement, at the age of 90, he was thought to be the oldest postmaster in Great Britain. On his birthday it was reported that he was still in good health and was spending a lot of time in his garden. |
