Allendale, Alston, Whitfield
Date: 23 June 1881 In a letter to the Courant, a reader from Allendale said that, while bicycling was a nice amusement and quick mode of transport, it tended to frighten horses and posed a danger to pedestrians. A very dim view was also taken of cycling on the Lord?s Day.
